Snow Painting Class With Megan Ruch (Albany, N.Y.) - Albany Barn will host a snow painting workshop with artist Megan Ruch Thursday, February 22, 6:30-8:30 p.m. For $44.52, and all art supplies included, artists can learn in a small group setting how to create the effect of snow by only using three colors. Sincerely Us Workshops at Electric City Barn (Schenectady, N.Y.) - Come to the Electric City Barn to take part in the Sincerely Us workshop on Saturday, Feb. 24, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Although the workshop is free, registration is required. Sincerely Us is a project focused on uplifting community voices and exploring creative ways to discuss healthy relationships and healthy communities. Critical Forum Artist Exhibition to End Feb. 24 (Troy, N.Y.) - The Arts Center of the Capital Region will conclude the Critical Forum Artist Exhibition with its final showing on Saturday, Feb. 24. The exhibit features work from artists who took part in the Critical Forum program with Talisen Thomas, PhD. Critical Forum Program Director. The works featured in this exhibit include mixed-media pieces, collage, drawing, sculpture, painting, and photography. Be A Part of Critical Forum 2024 (Troy, N.Y.) - Are you looking for a place to develop your professional skills in the arts? Sign up to take part in the 2024 Critical Forum program at The Arts Center of the Capital Region. Twelve participating artists have an opportunity to meet monthly over a six-month period at the center focusing on group critiques led by the Critical Forum program director, Talisen Thomas, invited colleagues in the field, and arts professionals from the Hudson Valley region and beyond. The program also includes a two-single day immersive visits to New York City to explore the contemporary art world. Applications to take part in the opportunity will open Monday, March 4 and will close on Monday, April 1. Last week to Apply for Spring Makers Market (Colonie, N.Y.) - This week is the final week to apply to take part in the Spring Makers Market at Arlene’s. Applications to take part in the Saturday, May 11 event are due on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. If the artists are chosen to participate, they will be able to sell their handmade creations in front of customers that appreciate handmade products. From Sign Language to Public Speaking (Colonie, N.Y.) - The Colonie Chabad Jewish Center will host the presentation, “From Sign Language to Public Speaking” on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24, in conjunction with Jewish Disability Awareness and Inclusion Month. The featured guest speaker will be Moshe Kudan of Albany, who was born with cerebral palsy (CP) and had developmental delays. Kudan, with the help of the Friendship Circle, was able to learn how to learn, write, and read Hebrew and currently leads the davening at the Colonie Chabad. Warmth of Winter at Colonie Senior Services Center (Colonie, N.Y.) - The Colonie Senior Services Center will host their Warmth of Winter (WOM) event Thursday, February 22, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Wolferts Roost in Albany. This event, co-sponsored by the Crisafulli Brothers, will have everything from wine and craft beer tastings, hors d’oeuvres, delicious cuisine, auction items, games and activities, and music from Dueling Pianos pianists, Rob Aronstein and Mike Purcell. Proceeds from this event will benefit local seniors and help defray the cost of heating bills during the winter months. Tickets for the benefit are available for purchase at www.colonieseniors.org. Gary Lucas to Perform at Spencertown Academy (Spencertown, N.Y.) - Grammy-nominated songwriter Gary Lucas will be playing the blues at Spencertown Academy Arts Center on Saturday, February 24, 7:30 p.m. Advance ticket sales for members are $20 and general admission is $25. On the day of the show, based on ticket availability, tickets will be $25 for academy members and $30 for general admission. Lucas will perform his original songs, blues tunes, a tribute to Lucas’ collaborators Captain Beefheart and Jeff Buckley, covers of 30’s Chinese pop, and much more.
